Bohodar Kotorovych (1941-2009) – founder of the orchestra

was a renowned Soviet violinist. Kotorovych completed his education at the Moscow Conservatoire under Prof.Yankelevich.

During his student years he received top prizes at the George Enescu and  Paganini Competitions.

After his return to Kiev, Kotorovych firmly established himself as a leading Ukrainian violinist and pedagogue.

He was a jury member at some of the worlds prestigious competitions such as ARD , Tchaikovsky, Nielsen, Paganini.

During those years he was also a visiting Professor at the Sydney Conservatoire.

Kotorovych taught a whole generation of talented Ukrainian string players ,formed a chamber orchestra ” Kiev Soloists” out of his best students and has had a large influence on the Ukrainian school of violin playing.

During his lifetime he was a recipient of Ukraine’s numerous top prizes and merits for his dedicated service to arts and culture.

The National Chamber Ensemble “Kyiv Soloists” is implementation of long-standing dream of Bogodar Kotorovych (1941-2009). Musicians are recognized by listeners and critics from different countries all over the world, crew assembles talented musicians of Ukraine. Most of them are winners of National and International competitions and represent Maestro school.

The Ensemble gained reputation as promoter of world level composers, whose works were performed throughout Ukraine in first time. “Military requiem” by B.Britten and The Concert suite by L.Auerbach was heard for the first time to Ukrainian audience by played “Kyiv Soloists”. They also take serious effort in popularizing modern Ukrainian composers – M.Skoryk, Y.Stankovych and V.Silvestrov. Incredibly emotional, contrasting, dramatic and at the same time lyrical, their performances give  is truly a whole range of various feelings.

Diverse potential of the Ensemble draw attention of  world performers of different styles directions  like concerts with: V.Sokolov (violin, Ukraine), K.Karabits (conductor, Ukraine-England),  O.Lyniv (conductor, Ukraine-Germany), S.Retie (flute, France),  M.Rysanov (viola, England), I.Chetuyev (piano, Ukraine), N.Grubert (piano, Netherlands), G.Hofman (cello, USA), K.M.Mehner (piano, Spian), J.Milkis (clarinet, USA), G.Caussé (viola, Frabce), D.Severin (violoncello, Switzerland), D.Ashkenazi (clarinet, Switzerland), O.Yblonskay (piano, USA), G.Tovadros (oud, Australia) take place together with concerts of band “Okean Elzy” (Ukraine), jazz singer N.Katamadze (Georgia) and founder of band «Deep Purple» J.Lord, K.Vilensky (jazz pianist, Poland).

High poetic spirit the “Kyiv Soloists” in combination with vanguard, what to have  in the traditions  Ukrainian music captivated  audience in such famous halls as Luxembourg Palace and UNESCO in Paris, Komische Opera in Berlin, Great National Philharmonic Hall in Warsaw, Concert Hall “Flagey” in Belgium, RadioKulturhaus in Vienna, Concert Hall Esplanade in Singapore and World Exhibition in Japan. They were invited to international festivals named after D. Oistrakh (Pärnu, Estonia), modern music “Warsaw Autumn” (Warsaw, Poland), modern music in Krakow (Poland), classic music in Ruhr (Germany), International Festival of Symphonic Music (Algeria), Ancara Music Festival (Turky), International Music Festival by Ludwig van Beethoven (Poland), “Season music premiers”, “KyivMusicFest”, “GOGOLFEST”, “ChamberArtMusic” (Ukraine).

For the orchestra’s brilliant activity of representing the Ukrainian culture abroad, the “Kiev Soloists” received of Ukraine. The orchestra has recently signed a recording contract with an international label of “Naxos”.

For exceptional accomplishments in representation of Ukrainian culture in the world, Еnsemble “Kyiv Soloists” honoured as “Ambassador of Ukrainian culture in the World” of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
